wizzardly: Just consider it? Just for a moment? (I don't suppose you'd just let me go?)

[ Hah. For the time being. Since it seems they're on the brink of another one...Mark fights to keep from grimacing. Why can't they just all stay out of trouble? Stupid Illyan. Baelish and Chilton have resources to bring to bear if they decide they want to fight the Barrayarans - allies - What if there is a fight, and Lady Vorkosigan gets hurt? Or Winry? Or Miles, not that he'd ever voice that worry aloud...

Or me. Mark wonders when his own safety was moved to the bottom of the list. Weird. ]

Yeah. Uh, well, I can't take sole credit for that. There are a couple of people keeping Miles from doing anything stupid.

Hah. Fortunately, he's currently distracted with that relationship of his. That keeps him calm.

Yeah. I'll see you then.

I reserved a title three weeks ago. Waiting on the lender to return it at their convenience isn't a luxury I can presently afford.

If you would root out the cause of the problem, I would be obliged.

[Is it a request? Or a demand? Who knows! FIND HIS BOOK.]

There's plenty of books he's loaned in his life; psychology texts and classics dating to the eighteenth century. Today he's after a classic of the modern sort.]

Carrie.

[His one true love.]

I have them. So what would I gain from questioning them that I couldn't take from you?

[Is he ignoring that sacrifice and trying to pin Rincewind to the spot? Yes, yes he is.]

Rincewind? I needs your surname for this employee paperwork. This is official, serious business and I cannot accept simply a first name interaction on such documentation -- that might demonstrate favoritism.

We cannot allow people to know that.
slightlyoffchilt: (Disciplinary.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2016-12-01 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Wait.

I am to call you Rincewind Rincewind?
slightlyoffchilt: (Precursory.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2016-12-01 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
[A soft whine:] But my paperwork...

I just, I had always assumed that was only your first name. Like how Raina has forcibly but one name. Same with Madonna. I thought it was a personal choice, not a lack thereof.
slightlyoffchilt: (Unsure.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2016-12-01 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Haven't got any relatives to ask. That seemed additionally tragic now, and Chilton realized he hadn't deeply delved into Rincewind's personal history outside the current facts -- such as "being vaguely British" and "kind of old timey, like Petyr Baelish". The hidden depths startled him.]

Ah -- right. What about -- ah. Hm. Ephraim?

[This is a lot of pressure, okay.]
slightlyoffchilt: (Dissident.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2016-12-01 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine so. It... Means... [Stalling for a Google.] Oh. Fruitful.

[Called Rincewind a fruit, he did.]

Yes, well, I'm a patient man.

Regardless. This would be the hospital Chilton's opened, hmm? Where Harleen works, yes? The person I happen to be visiting most days?

[He has a captive audience. It's great.]

I expect we'll bump into each other whilst you're working. But I understand. You'll be busy. Don't worry, though. I won't take up much of your time.

Absolutely! We're friends from the old town. Julian, Harleen and I... We share the same house and have one, solid piece of common ground.

You've never visited Arkham, have you?

[It's a Gotham thing. You're not a member of their special Arkham residents club.]
